About the business
Loutan & Cie SA designs, makes and installs signs and visual communication materials in Geneva. Based on Rue des Photographes in the Eaux-Vives district, its workshops serve shops, businesses, institutions and event organisers. The company’s history began in 1888 with Charles Loutan’s sign-painting workshop. Its advertising work covers illuminated and non-illuminated signs, cut-out lettering, indoor and outdoor signage, window decoration, frosted films and banners. Digital printing, screen printing, adhesive cutting and gold-leaf work support different types of projects. Production, printing, assembly and installation preparation take place in its workshops. Loutan developed Geneva’s trapezoidal advertising panels in 1950 to announce local events. The panels are made and screen-printed in Eaux-Vives and form part of the city’s cultural and event advertising activity. Under the Car Prestige name, the company provides vehicle graphics, wrapping and PPF paint protection films. Its nautical work includes hull markings and sail decoration. Loutan also supplies and installs road signs, road markings, street furniture and safety mirrors. L’histoire de la maison Loutan commence en 1888, lorsque Charles Loutan ouvre son atelier de peinture d’enseignes au Carrefour de Rive, à Genève. En 1902, il installe son atelier dans l’immeuble qu’il fait construire rue des Photographes. L’entreprise élargit ensuite ses activités aux stands d’exposition et à la décoration de chars. Philippe Loutan entre en apprentissage de peintre en lettres dans l’entreprise familiale en 1939. La sérigraphie prend progressivement place aux côtés du travail de peinture. En 1950, à la suite d’une sollicitation liée à la promotion des manifestations genevoises, Philippe développe les panneaux trapèzes. Leur fabrication et leur impression restent liées aux ateliers des Eaux-Vives. Frédéric Berlie s’associe à Philippe Loutan en 1992, puis reprend les rênes de la maison lors du départ à la retraite de ce dernier en 1999. Loutan célèbre ses 125 ans en 2013. Les ateliers présentés aujourd’hui par l’entreprise réunissent la réalisation publicitaire, la sérigraphie, l’impression des trapèzes, la découpe d’adhésifs et le covering. Une salle hors poussière est dédiée à la pose de films de protection et de covering ; d’autres espaces servent à l’assemblage et au travail des matériaux.
